Results on mobile telephony use in Serbia
The research has shown that more than one third of the examinees do not have SIM card, whereas two thirds use up to 3 GB of data per month. Around 30% of the examinees changed their operator – in 35% of the cases, as a result of a lower price offered by the new provider, whereas, interestingly, as much as 29% of the examinees changed their operator on a friend’s recommendation and 12% on account of promotion prices. After changing operator, 40% of the examinees chose to keep their mobile telephone number. As much as 15% of the examinees were not aware they could keep the number and almost 11% said they had been told by the new operator that they could not keep the old number.
Quality of data transfer service offered by all three operators is very good, reaching the level of other European mobile networks. However, one third of mobile users do not have or do not use Internet on their mobile telephone.
All three operators of mobile communications networks in the Republic of Serbia have achieved satisfactory results in terms of quality of service provided to users, who, on the other hand, often fail to fully benefit from the large scope of offered services.
The results of this research highlight the need to familiarize users with options and possibilities in mobile communications networks in the Republic of Serbia, so that they could be more efficiently integrated in the modern world of technology.
RATEL has been carrying out activities related to Benchmarking of mobile networks – by developing tools for Internet quality measurement – RATEL NetTest. This activity will contribute to the development of electronic communications networks and services, increase their accessibility and quality, stressing the necessity of using available services and existing options in mobile communications networks in Serbia.
The research was conducted in November 2018 on the territory of the Republic of Serbia, on the representative sample of 1200 examinees, consistent with the country's demographic structure.
