New Law on Electronic Communications comes into force
The new Law on Electronic Communications („Official Gazette of RS“, No 35/23) went into force on May 7, 2023, following which the Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Postal Services (RATEL) became the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications and Postal Services. RATEL will continue to perform regulatory and other tasks within the frame of its competence, prescribed by the above law and special laws governing the areas of postal services and cybersecurity.
The Law on Electronic Communications has been vastly aligned with the European Electronic Communications Code (EECC), which will help carry out the planned activities to create a modern business environment according to the European standards, accompanied by positive effects on the economy and citizens’ standard of living.
The purpose of the Law is, among other, to ensure a homogenous development of electronic communications on the whole territory of the Republic of Serbia and incentivize the connection, widespread availability and use of new generation networks, especially high capacity networks, including fixed, mobile and wireless networks.
