RATEL representatives visiting regional cable operators

17.05.2017

„According to RATEL’s data from the first quarter of 2017, there are 83 registered media content distribution service providers in Serbia, with 1.66 million users, i.e. two thirds of households which benefit from cable TV services. Numerous operators registered at RATEL provide simultaneously services of media content distribution, those of Internet access and of fixed telephony“, said dr Vladica Tintor, director of RATEL, during his visit to SAT-TRAKT, regional cable operator form Bačka Topola. He also added that it is particularly encouraging that a regional operator is taking part in the market competition process on a global level.

„We are one of the rare operators that develop optical networks covering villages in Vojvodina. The majority of operators find this financially not viable, network deployment being more expensible in rural than in urban areas. Our villages’ population ranges from 150 to 5000 inhabitants. Without state subsidies, they will find themselves on the margins of technological and any other development. Unfair and unregistered competition create an additional problem, because those operators use near-border areas to provide service of media content distribution in two neighbouring countries“, pointed out representatives of SAT-TRAKT.

Within its regulatory and administrative competence, RATEL will monitor all operators’ activities, in the interest of users and markets in the Republic of Serbia, expecting at the same time from service providers further investments in the development of electronic communications – from the segment of technology, to raising users’ awarness of their rights and obligations.
